What makes anyone in the 21st century want to become a knight? It’s a fascinating question! What is the purpose for which they line up as one man behind another and serve it with humility, not infrequently far from the land they call home? What defines being a knight in the modern age, when bravery in great battles is no longer required?
Members of the Society of Sea Knights don’t ride horses, they ride the waves! Sometimes on gentle, sometimes on rough waters. The idea of being a knight is about being able to cope with all the demands of modern society and the sea at the same time.
The sea is a force to be reckoned with, and it doesn’t make exceptions. Waves and wind are relentless, but they can be tamed and put to work for good. All you need is the right knowledge, real expertise, and practical experience. And that’s what the Knights of the Sea Society is all about! Our treasure isn’t buried on a desert island or in the depths of the sea, accessed by deciphering secret maps. It’s knowledge and experience, and we’re excited to share it with others!
As members of the Knights of the Sea, we wholeheartedly believe that the Adriatic and the Mediterranean are not just the shipping areas of a few countries. These seas are the lifeblood of nations. Nations that respect traditions and each other, preserving the values that the peoples who live and sail in these lands have created over thousands of years. We are proud to say that only those who are able and willing to preserve and enhance these values, who have sailed the seas of the world for at least five years and who have a licence to navigate, are accepted as members. We are delighted to welcome those who set an example and stand out from other seafarers, who are committed to the pursuit and transmission of good. Who knows what is good manners, morals and ethics in every situation? Who sets an example of humanity? Who we can look up to because their behaviour, appearance and knowledge make us do so? Those who serve this ideal with honour and loyalty, who demonstrate their commitment by their actions in addition to all these qualities, and who are rewarded by the members of the society, can become knights! Membership is therefore not open to all and cannot be conferred.
